Ios Island in Greece is a famous tourist destination, attracting visitors with its golden beaches and the characteristic Aegean architecture. Ios is well known as the party island with the lively atmosphere and the endless fun.

Besides entertainment the island offers a lot of history as well. According to the legend, the poet Homers grave is located somewhere in the northern part of Ios, close the Plakoto beach. The archeologic excavations on the Skarkos hill show the remains of a well preserved prehistoric village. The Virgin Mary chapel, located at the highest point of the capital, reveals a magnificent panorama of the harbor. Above Agia Teodoti rise the remnants of the old fortress Paleokastro.
