Santorini is the most popular island in Greece. It may be the most popular island in the world. There are few travel destinations that combine beautiful beaches, spectacular scenery, ancient cities, amazing restaurants, some of the world's best wine, and an active volcano. Santorini has it all and even more.
The main town Fira holds most of the history of the island in the Archeological museum and the museum of Prehistoric Fira. All the remains of the prehistorical civilizations are gathered there. Close to the Catholic Church in Fira is located the Megaro Gyzi center which exhibits XVI – XIX century frescoes, as well as paintings of Greek artists and pictures of the island before the great earthquake in 1956.
Other interesting places to visit are the Museum of wine in the “Volcano Wines” vineyard, which represents the history of winemaking on the island since 1660 and the Museum of minerals and fossils, located in the center of Perisa, exhibiting fossils and minerals from Greece and the whole world.
